Ford Island 10k

Finishers 2012.

Instead of taking advantage of the weekend and sleeping in, Chris and I were up and out of the house by 5:30 a.m. and enroute to Ford Island for the 15th Annual Ford Island 10k.

We ran this last year, and it was my first attempt at a 10k.

Chris and I before the race circa 2011.

With two under my belt, I was more confident in my running abilities this time around.

My goal was to run the entire race without stopping. Mission accomplished! Even though my left foot fell asleep at mile two, I don’t know how that is possible, I ran through the pins and needles and it finally woke up at mile four.

I crossed the finish line at one hour and 15 minutes, much improved from my first effort at one hour, 45 minutes.

After a 6.2 mile work out, we met Jess and her baby girl Halle, along with her friend Jackie and her baby girl, Jasmine, for a well deserved pancake breakfast.

Running Regiment

I have to give myself a big pat on the back because I have been pretty consistant with this running thing. At first I was having wicked knee pain in my right knee, but once I got my feeties in the correct shoe, it’s been smooth sailing.
Sept. 12- 1 mile. Felt pretty good.
Sept. 13- 1.5 miles. I pushed myself and paid for it later.
Sept. 14- no running. My knee was killing me!
Sept. 15- 1 mile. First run with the new kicks. However, it was a bad idea to put my orthotics in them.
Sept. 16- No running. My shins and ankles were killing me from yesterday.
Sept. 17- 2 miles! So proud of myself.
Sept. 18. I over did it, so no running.
Sept. 19-22- 2 miles. This time no issues. Much better pace.
Sept. 23-25- No running. I left my running bag on the bed while we were away at the Aulani. The trade off was I did lots of swimming.
Sept. 26-30- Up to 2.5 miles. Wahoo! I found my stride.
Sept. 1- no running. Taking some time off.
Sept. 2.- no running, but lots of swimming because my cousins were in town.
Oct. 1 and 2- 3 miles! That’s a 5k!

I've been owned

Sometimes I wonder if God is a prankster.

I took my new running shoes out for a test run and they were amazing. No more knee pain. Wooho! When I got back home, Chris had his soccer gear on and asked if I wanted to kick a ball around with him. I put Oakley's leash on and we all walked over to the park by our house.

While Chris kicked the ball around I ran Oakley around and noticed there were two large, unleashed pitt bulls in the park as well. Super. We are easy targets.

Of course one of the pitt bulls caught our scent and made a b line towards us. His owner yelled, "He's nice, don't worry." Psh like I am going to fall for that one. I bent over to protect Oakley from what I thought would be an immanent death. However, this pitt was quite friendly and just sniffed him. Whew.

But before he went back to his owner, this pitt decided he liked me and decided to make me his. Yupp, he lifted his leg and marked my leg AND my NEW shoes! Ugh!

New Kicks

So I have been doing this running thing pretty consistently since we got back from CT. Don't give me that shocked face. Anyhoo, after a straight week of running I was getting a wicked pain in my right knee. It was clearly time to get some new running shoes.

Chris told me I should go to a running store to be properly fitted and I didn't argue. Another shocker. Hey, he was supporting me and offering to pay for new shoes. My momma didn't raise no fool.

After trying on a few different pairs, the guy at Runners HI found me the perfect fit... 100 big ones later!

I cannot wait to test these bad boys out.
