Going French

After my Godson's Baptism, we all headed into Chinatown for dinner at Brasserie Du Vin. I am a fan of French food, so I was excited to eat at a new place.

When you first walk into the big open space it doesn't scream French, however as you make your way deeper inside you are instantly transported to another place. They have an outdoor patio area that is super chic, which leads into another dining room. The restaurant has a casual and rustic environment, and the food is great!

We ordered moules frites ~ Steamed mussels in white wine, garlic and herbs, topped with pommes frites (aka French Fries) and Baked Brie stuffed with pecans and dried cranberries, wrapped in a puff pastry, topped with Manoa honey for the table. One of the highlights of the meal was the fresh bread that the server kept refilling. We used the fresh, warm and crustry bead to sop up the juices from the mussels.

Me, Marissa and Jared ordered the duck confit and white bean cassoulet with Bresaola and prosciutto, drizzled with a balsamic reduction and my husband Chris and Stephanie ordered the grilled flat iron steak with roasted garlic and a port wine demi-glace, served with fresh greens and pommes frites. I also ordered a chocolate and banana crepe for dessert but I should have ordered the chocolate souffle instead!

Although it was French, the portions were plentiful and everyone went home full. The best part of the meal was our sever brought us over this flower that he then proceeded to light, and like magic it burst open, lighting hidden candles inside AND it sang!
